Challenges brought by UV ink to printing plates

nowadays, the quality of flexible printing is getting higher and higher, and the proportion of UV ink is becoming larger and larger. Its participation is inseparable from cartons to self-adhesive labels. Compared with other inks, UV inks can adjust the ink volume to print works with brighter colors and closer field on the medium

but it also has a disadvantage, that is, the monomer molecules of UV ink are similar to the monomer molecules on the photosensitive printing plate (1) turning off the oil pump Electromechanical, it is very easy to cause molecular diffusion, resulting in printing plate deformation, commonly known as printing plate expansion. Plate makers can adopt special plate making methods to control this deformation within a certain range, prolong the service life of the plate, and improve the printing effect. we have done comparative experiments on the expansion deformation and printing effect of various UV inks in the market, and found that various conclusions about the performance of printing plates can only play a guiding role in reality. Therefore, most of the statistical data listed in this paper are only experimental results for reference only. After the experiment, Ben came up with the best plan and made a simple outlook for the new printing plates of nyloflex series

printing test

the printing plates used in this experiment are nyloflex FAH, digiflex FAH DiI and some common flexible printing plates in the market. The ink adopts the products of BASF and other companies. The experimental conditions were the same, and the time was six hours. The ink supply roller is 320 lines/cm (800 lines/inch), 60 degree screen line, and the ink supply volume is 3 cubic centimeters per square meter

after continuous operation for 3 hours, we found that the temperature of the ink fountain increased from 20 ℃ (68 ℉) to 40 ℃ (104 ℉). It can be concluded that there is a certain corresponding relationship between printing time, printing temperature and point reproduction, and the temperature may also have a certain impact on the expansion of the printing plate. The experiment also found that the hardness change of the printing plate was only about 1 shore degree, far from the 6 degrees in the static expansion experiment, and this hardness change did not occur every time. It can be concluded that during the printing process, the change of plate hardness has only a minimal impact on the printing quality

point reproduction

observing the change of reproduction of the starting point of printing plate deformation is the focus of this experiment. The expansion and change of the printing plate caused by the reaction between the printing plate and UV ink is mainly reflected in the following two aspects:

with the extension of printing time, the printing plate will thicken under the influence of the reaction between the ink and the printing plate, which will compress the imprint line between the printing cylinder and the printing plate, make the material between this part shrink and deform, and cause the print dots on the printing sheet base to become larger, making the dots have redundant mottled

at the same time, because different indicators of material control are that different halftone areas are filled, the printing quality will be greatly reduced. If the printing pressure is higher, this kind of printing will cause considerable damage to the printing plate and greatly reduce the service life of the printing plate

printing plate and test results

this experiment aims at two printing plates - traditional printing plate and digital printing plate. Among all the traditional printing plates, FAH printing plate performs the best and its performance is very stable. It is believed that with the support of 3D printing technology, especially under the conditions of various UV inks, it has a good performance, which once again proves the king position of FAH printing plate in flexo printing. Other types of printing plates rarely show outstanding performance, and there will be ups and downs in the tone performance

nyloflex FAH printing plate broke out many bright spots in high-quality halftone flexible printing. Especially when flexible packaging film and packaging paper, labels, cartons, shopping bags, aluminum sheets and other printed products are printed by the thin plate printing process with elastic lining

in digital printing plate, FAH DiI and another printing plate show higher characteristics than traditional photosensitive printing plate. Especially in the aspect of keeping the point no longer expanding, it reflects the quality of digital printing plate freedom. Digital plate making can effectively reduce the imaging volume and the thickness of the printing plate by laser etching and oxygen environment exposure imaging

especially for the delicate points of the highlight part, digital plate making can convert it into the middle or field tones that can be printed in printing, instead of washing out the colors like traditional plates

under appropriate printing pressure, the digital printing plate can reflect all kinds of delicate parts of the original product in the printed products without omission, so it maintains the freshness of the printed products. The experimental results show that the digiflex FAH DiI printing plate only shows a little color drift even for the extremely fine parts and when UV ink is used for a long time. This proves that it is the best choice when printing with UV ink

nyloflex sprint printing plate

this kind of printing plate with a thickness of 1.14 mm (or 0.045 inch) is a new product specially designed for the use of UV ink. It has appeared at the drupa exhibition, but it was not found in this experiment. It is a washable printing plate, which can be processed in 30 minutes. When UV ink is used for a long time, this kind of printing plate has no obvious expansion change. Its shore hardness is 77~79 degrees. It is an ideal high-quality UV halftone flexographic printing tool. In addition, it is also equipped with a low-cost wastewater processor, which can directly convert printing wastewater into biodegradable water that can be discharged, showing another advantage of it

the high performance of this kind of printing plate is also reflected in its good point reproduction ability in highlight and fine adjustment areas. The screen line can reach 60 lines/cm (150lpi). It has UV resistant ink, good ink transfer performance, dot expansion size, and high printing quality


this experiment tested the expansion performance of all printing plates under UV ink, and found that in BASF printing systems, nyloflex FAH printing plate and digiflex FAH DiI printing plate are two products with better practicability of UV ink. Nyloflex sprint product is an extension of this UV applicable principle, which provides a strong backing for UV ink manufacturers to continue to develop new products, and improves UV ink printing products to a new level
